Pronunciación · Grupos de sentido (thought groups)
En explicaciones largas, respira en las comas mentales: 'This is the rule / which causes / the most confusion'. Pausar por grupos hace que el grupo te siga aunque la oración sea compleja.

Escritura · Explica por escrito (5–7 oraciones) una regla que tus alumnos siempre confunden, usando 'which means that', 'in other words' y un ejemplo con 'unless' o 'as long as'.
My students confuse 'their' and 'there'. 'Their' shows possession, which means that it always comes before a noun: their books, their classroom. 'There' talks about a place. In other words, if you can point at it, use 'there'. I tell them: unless you see a noun after the word, don't write 'their'. They can pass the quiz as long as they remember this question: is something being owned?

Lectura · Explaining 'unless' to teenagers
Miss Reyes wanted her students to stop confusing 'unless' with 'if'. Instead of translating, she wrote two sentences on the board: 'If you study, you will pass' and 'Unless you study, you will fail'. She asked the class which sentence sounded like a warning. Most students chose the second one. 'Exactly,' she said. 'Unless means if not. It warns you about what happens when you don't do something.' Then each student wrote one warning for the classroom, like 'Unless we clean up, we lose recess time.'
